Essential UK travel guide
The practical half of a good holiday
Flights, transfers, weather, money and the small print. None of it is glamorous, and all of it is what separates a smooth fortnight from a stressful one. Everything below is written for travellers leaving from the UK in the 2026 season.
Getting there
Dalaman (DLM) is the airport, roughly 4h 20m from the south of England. Ten UK airports run summer services.
Airport transfers
90 minutes to Marmaris, 100 to Icmeler, two hours to Turunc. Private transfers are worth it after 22:00.
Best months
June and September. July and August are hotter, busier and dearer in roughly equal measure.
Money
Turkish lira. Cards nearly everywhere, cash for the bazaar and the dolmus. Change small amounts often.
Season by season
When to go, and what it costs you either way
Marmaris has a long season and a very predictable one. The decision is rarely about weather, by June it is reliably hot, and almost always about crowds, price and whether you are tied to school dates.

Insider note
September is the quiet winner
The sea holds August’s heat, the promenade empties as the schools go back, and prices drop by a noticeable margin in the same week.

Straight answers
Questions UK travellers actually ask
If yours is not here, an agent will answer it before you commit to anything, and it costs nothing to ask.
Before you pay a deposit
The four checks that protect the money
Check one
Protection, in writing
Any package including a flight should come with an ATOL certificate at the point of booking, not on departure day.
Check two
Names on the passports
Spellings must match the passport exactly. Airline name-change fees on charter seats are punitive.
Check three
Insurance declared properly
Pre-existing conditions, activity cover and the full duration of the trip. This is where claims fail.
Check four
One point of contact
A named UK agent who answers the phone beats a chat window in a different time zone.
Dates and fares
The right week is usually not the one you first looked at
Shifting a departure by three days can move the price of a Marmaris holiday more than any discount code. Agents see the whole charter picture; a search box shows you one date at a time.
