Marmaris Holidays

Essential UK travel guide

The practical half of a good holiday

Flights, transfers, weather, money and the small print. None of it is glamorous, and all of it is what separates a smooth fortnight from a stressful one. Everything below is written for travellers leaving from the UK in the 2026 season.

Getting there

Dalaman (DLM) is the airport, roughly 4h 20m from the south of England. Ten UK airports run summer services.

Airport transfers

90 minutes to Marmaris, 100 to Icmeler, two hours to Turunc. Private transfers are worth it after 22:00.

Best months

June and September. July and August are hotter, busier and dearer in roughly equal measure.

Money

Turkish lira. Cards nearly everywhere, cash for the bazaar and the dolmus. Change small amounts often.

Season by season

When to go, and what it costs you either way

Marmaris has a long season and a very predictable one. The decision is rarely about weather, by June it is reliably hot, and almost always about crowds, price and whether you are tied to school dates.

SEA

WHAT IT FEELS LIKE

May

25C

20C

Quiet, everything open, sea still fresh

June

23C

The sweet spot before school holidays

July

25C

Peak heat, peak price, book early

August

35C

Hottest and busiest of the year

September

31C

26C

Warm sea, thinner crowds, best value

October

24C

Swimmable to mid-month, season winds down

Insider note

September is the quiet winner

The sea holds August’s heat, the promenade empties as the schools go back, and prices drop by a noticeable margin in the same week.

Straight answers

Questions UK travellers actually ask

If yours is not here, an agent will answer it before you commit to anything, and it costs nothing to ask.

British citizens travelling for tourism do not currently need a visa for short stays in Turkiye, but you do need a passport valid for at least 150 days from the date of entry. Rules change, so check the FCDO advice close to departure, or let your agent confirm it against your actual passport.
Around 90 minutes to Marmaris centre and Armutalan, closer to 100 minutes for Icmeler and two hours for Turunc. Coach transfers included with a package stop at several hotels; a private transfer costs more and goes straight there.
Late May, June, September and the first half of October. The sea is warm from June onwards and stays swimmable well into October, while July and August regularly sit above 35C with very little breeze inland.
Yes, particularly Icmeler. The bay shelves gradually, the promenade is flat and paved end to end, and most large hotels run kids’ clubs to a decent standard.
The Turkish lira. Cards are accepted almost everywhere in Marmaris and Icmeler, but the bazaar, the dolmus and the smaller village lokantas run on cash.
Marmaris is a long-established resort with the ordinary risks of any busy tourist town. Turkiye is seismically active, and modern hotels are built to current codes. Read the FCDO travel advice before you travel.
Yes. Package bookings are typically ATOL or ABTA protected, which covers the money you paid and gets you home if a supplier fails. Ask your agent to confirm their specific cover, since it will not pay for a hospital bill or a lost camera.
In a normal 2026 season: Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Newcastle, Leeds Bradford, Glasgow and Edinburgh, mostly on charter or low-cost schedules between May and October.

Before you pay a deposit

The four checks that protect the money

Check one

Protection, in writing

Any package including a flight should come with an ATOL certificate at the point of booking, not on departure day.

Check two

Names on the passports

Spellings must match the passport exactly. Airline name-change fees on charter seats are punitive.

Check three

Insurance declared properly

Pre-existing conditions, activity cover and the full duration of the trip. This is where claims fail.

Check four

One point of contact

A named UK agent who answers the phone beats a chat window in a different time zone.

Dates and fares

The right week is usually not the one you first looked at

Shifting a departure by three days can move the price of a Marmaris holiday more than any discount code. Agents see the whole charter picture; a search box shows you one date at a time.
