Marmaris Holidays

Resort & area guide

One bay, four very different holidays

Marmaris is usually sold as a single destination. In practice the four areas around the bay suit four different travellers, and picking wrong is the most common way a good Marmaris holiday goes flat.

A verified UK specialist will match the area to your party before quoting hotels.

Marmaris centre · Netsel

Marmaris centre, for people who want the harbour on their doorstep

The town proper: a Genoese-era castle, the Grand Bazaar behind it, and a marina where fishing boats tie up beside superyachts. Bar Street runs loud until three in the morning, but it is one street, stay east of the castle and you get the harbour views without the bass line.

Best for first-timers, short breaks and anyone who would rather walk to dinner than wait for a shuttle.

Icmeler bay

Icmeler, where the water shelves gently and the promenade stays calm

Eight kilometres west of the centre and a different holiday altogether. Icmeler sits in its own horseshoe bay under steep pine slopes, with a swimming shelf that stays shallow for a long way out.

Best for families with young children, and for couples who want the sea rather than the strip.

Armutalan

Armutalan, the residential quarter where locals eat

Uphill and inland, Armutalan is where Marmaris lives when the season ends. Apartment blocks, a Thursday market, family-run lokantas charging local prices, and hotels that cost noticeably less than the same standard on the seafront.

Best for longer stays, self-catering and value-minded travellers who do not need a sea-view balcony.

Turunc · Kumlubuk

Turunc, a village bay reached better by boat than by road

Over the headland on the Bozburun peninsula, Turunc is a small blue-flag bay with a village behind it and almost nothing else. The road in climbs and twists for forty minutes; the boat from Marmaris takes twenty-five and is the better arrival.

Best for honeymooners, walkers and anyone whose idea of a good evening is one restaurant and the sound of water.

Next step

Tell someone your party, not just your dates

Two adults and a four-year-old belong in a different bay from four friends in July. A verified UK agent starts with the party and works back to the hotel.
